David Miller

After graduating from the London School of Economics, David Miller spent the first 15 years of his career in market research and economic consultancy working for many industrial clients including Shell, ICI and BP. He then joined the British Government’s Department of Trade and Industry where, after spells dealing with the aerospace, iron and steel, and space industries, he was appointed as Licence Administrator responsible for UK oil and gas licensing. After leaving the Civil Service, he worked as a consultant for a number of oil companies before joining Sterling Resources (UK) Ltd as a Non-Executive Director.

From 2006 to 2008 he was CFO of African Arabian Petroleum Ltd, a company with exploration and production assets in North and West Africa. Previous to this he held senior financial positions at Yukos Oil Company and energy investment banking roles at Citigroup, UBS, Chase Manhattan and Schroders. Mr. Blewden holds a BA (Honours) and MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, England."

During the past 26 years, Mark has held increasingly senior operational leadership and managerial positions internationally in companies both public and private including President of Carthage Energy and its subsidiary Carthage Hydro, Vice-President of Petrokazakhstan, COO of Western Facilities, and President and Founder of Croft Offshore Oil Ltd.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario and a Master of Business Administration degree from the London Business School in the UK.

He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA).

 

Stephen Birrell

Vice President and General Manager for Netherlands and France.

Petroleum geoscientist with over twenty five years of technical and management experience in the international oil and gas industry including exploration, appraisal, development and A&D activities.

Stephen has been involved in starting and successfully growing over five different ventures’s during his career. Since joining Sterling he has been responsible for their Romanian business, which has seen a seven fold increase in the reported Contingent Reserves base. As of December 2010 he was appointed Sterling’s General Manager for both Netherlands and France, designated to manage and grow the companies business in these regions.

Stephen is a member of the AIPN, AAPG, SEG, SPE, EAGE and the PESGB.

Vice President Business Development of Sterling Resources (UK) Ltd

Twenty two years international business development and commercial experience most recently as Director and Head of the Commercial and Negotiations team for Marathon Oil. In addition to 10 years with Marathon, he has been in business development roles with Enterprise Oil, Premier Oil, GE Power Systems and Rolls-Royce Power Ventures. While at Marathon he also served as Managing Director for their Equatorial Guinea LNG joint venture.

He holds an MBA from London Business School and a BSc Honours Civil Engineering from Leeds University. He is a chartered engineer having also spent six years with engineering consultancy Arup. He serves on the Board of AIPN currently as VP Model Contracts.

Prior to joining Sterling in mid-2008 George was Manager, Investor Relations at PrimeWest Energy, a position he had held since 2001. Concurrent to much of his tenure with PrimeWest, he served as President/Chair of the Canadian Association of Income Funds (CAIF) from 2004 to 2008.  Prior to this he held senior roles in corporate finance and investor relations with TransCanada Pipelines and Petro-Canada respectively. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds both an MBA and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary.
